The Montessori Story
A hundred years ago Maria
Montessori developed the most compassionate and
adaptable educational system. She sought to make the
parents and educators of the world understand the vital
importance of children and their early years.
Learning occurs in our multi-age classrooms where
children at varied stages of development learn from and
with each other. Our environments are tailored to meet
the specific learning styles and capabilities of its
students.
The Montessori approach to education for children 3-6
years of age encompasses a wide range of experiences to
help each child’s physical, emotional, intellectual and
social development. Research shows that multi-age
grouping benefits the learning process and encourages
collaboration and cooperation. At Montessori Pathways
School, children 3 to 6 years of age gather to work and
play. Montessori educates the whole child, not only for
school, but also for life.
With careful guidance from our experienced Montessori
teachers, each child grows and learns in a social
setting that is both comfortable and developmentally
challenging. In this community, the children practice
life skills such as decision making, thinking for
oneself and getting along with others.
For 100 years, Montessori programs have been found in
widely diverse settings on every continent. This
capacity to effectively accommodate different cultural
settings shows that Montessori education will continue
to spread in the future.
