My Typical Day

Arrival
As children arrive, the teacher personally greets them. The quiet morning time is an opportunity for the child to make individual choices from a variety of interactive materials. Some children bring their breakfast. They enjoy sitting together and beginning the day with their friends.

Morning Work Time
Children then have an extended morning work time to focus on their individual interests under the guidance of experienced Montessori educators. They explore and discover at their own pace. Imagine a classroom where a child can pour juice independently, invite another child to join them for snack and know how to clean up spills. Imagine a place where you can follow your interests and have the time to become absorbed in new and engaging challenges. The child who is that competent and self-sufficient reflects an inner joy and sense of achievement. This is how we help each child develop self-esteem built on self-reliance.

Beginning with simple activities, children develop essential learning skills. They are free to choose from a wide selection of learning activities. Carefully designed Montessori hands-on materials invite the child to explore language, math, geography, art and the sciences. All this is part of an education for lifelong independence, poise and self-confidence.

Group Time
The children gather together for group sharing and activities. Movement, songs, stories, and lessons are all a part of this morning sharing.

Outdoor Time
Mid-day finds the children enjoying our spacious outdoor environment. Healthy minds and bodies need time out in the fresh air and sunlight. Their social skills are honed through practicing cooperation, negotiation, and observation. Friendships are strengthened through play.

Lunch and Rest
Then it’s time for lunch! The children set the table with cloth tablecloths, napkins, silverware and often put fresh flowers on the table. This promotes independence, interdependence, social grace and creates a family atmosphere. Nurturing the spirit is every bit as important as stimulating the mind. After lunch, it is time for rest for the preschoolers.

Kindergarten Afternoon
After lunch, Kindergartners meet together as a special “Kindergarten Club”. More details are found on the Kindergarten page.

Late Afternoon
All the children gather for a group snack. It’s time to recap the day. Some children will be getting ready to go home. Others are working on individual or small group activities. When weather permits, we end with additional outdoor time.
